Course Certification and Rescinding Permission

WREB considers certification documentation signed by the dean or director of an accredited dental hygiene school as consent for a student in their final semester of a degree program to attempt the Dental Hygiene exam. Students must first complete a local anesthesia and/or restorative course(s) before attempting the Local Anesthesia or Restorative exam(s).

A student may register to hold a spot at an examination, providing the necessary certification at a later time. However, they must submit the proper certification documentation no less than three weeks prior to the first day of the exam. The dean or director may provide the signed certification documentation to the individual student or mail it directly to the WREB Office. Be advised that per WREB Policy, local anesthesia or restorative certification cannot be accepted in advance of course completion.

At some point, faculty may assess the dental hygiene student’s competency, determining that the student is not ready to attempt the examination. In such instances, it is the responsibility of the school to notify WREB in writing that the student’s certification has been rescinded. The student/candidate must then contact WREB in writing (an email will suffice) to submit their cancellation request. See WREB Cancellation Policy excerpt below. Understanding that faculty has the power to rescind certification at any time, WREB encourages the submission of the required documentation as early as possible after student registration. For convenience, the Course Certification Form is available for download here.

WREB Cancellation Policy excerpt:  If notification is received more than three weeks prior to the first scheduled day of the exam, the candidate will receive a refund of approximately half the amount of their registration fee. A written cancellation received less than three weeks prior to the first day of the exam receives no refund. See WREB Cancellation Policy for more information.
